San Marcos, San Diego County
Cal State San Marcos was established in 1989 and held its first classes the following year in rented offices. Its permanent campus opened in 1992 on a hillside that had been a poultry ranch. Together with Palomar College, a community college founded in 1946, it makes San Marcos the main center of higher education in northern San Diego County.
